The title of this book, 'I Ran But The Germans Ran Faster', was his stock reply when asked how he was captured.
In fact running away, as you will discover as you read his story, could not be further from the truth.
From being bombed whilst at sea on a gunboat, finding a spent German bullet in his backpack to rescuing his Troop Officer's camera from an Italian encampment whilst under fire, this is an extraordinary tale of an ordinary man who went to war to 'do his bit', and came home to not tell the tale!
