Dr. Das has handled a number of research projects sponsored from Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India; Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng), UK; Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited (KIOCL); Mangalore Refinery and Petro Chemicals Limited (MRPL). The fund generation and research contributions have led to the development of Sustainable Construction and Building Materials Laboratory at NITK Surathkal , a specialized laboratory that practices the theme of sustainability. He has published over 100 papers in Journals and conferences, and has given several key-note presentations across the world. He has guided four doctoral students and more than sixty master's thesis. Currently, he has eight students who are doing their doctoral thesis and around fifteen students having their master's degree. He has been serving as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate from Centre for Innovative Materials Research (CIMR), Lawrence Technological University, Southfield, Michaigan, USA, and has obtained Doctorate of Philosophy from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, India. He has won a number of awards one of the prestigious being the Outstanding Reviewer Award from Construction and Building Materials Journal, Elsevier. He has edited number of books entitled Sustainable Construction and Building Materials-Select Proceedings of ICSCBM 2018, Recent Developments in Sustainable Infrastructure-Select Proceedings of ICRDSI 2019, Smart Technologies for Sustainable Development-Select Proceedings of SMTS 2019, Recent Trends in Civil Engineering Select Proceedings of TMSF 2019 and is serving as one of Guest Editor of the Indian Concrete Journal and is on the editorial panel of some of the reputed Construction Engineering and Material journals.
Dr. Hiroshan Hettiarachchi is Geotechnical Engineering Professor from the United States and an international expert in sustainability, circular economy. He was former Head of Waste Management Unit at the United Nations University (UNU-FLORES) Germany, which is a United Nations (UN) entity. He is also actively involved in the activities of conducted by the Circular Economy Center affiliated Friends in Need (FIN Trust, India, run by Professor Shyama Ramani from France/The Netherlands. In addition to his primary discipline - Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Engineering, Prof. Hettiarachchi's current work also covers sustainable waste and wastewater management, integrated management environmental resources, and nexus thinking. He is also specialized in formulation/implementation of scientific and capacity development projects promoting sustainability. Much of his recent wok has high relevance to the theme covered in this book proposal and focuses on contributing to the United Nations 2030 developmental agenda through the Sustainable Development Goals. He has published extensively on above topics in the formats of journal papers, books, book chapters, policy briefs, and reports (recent ones are listed in the cv) and made numerous invited talks on circular economy (a few can be viewed here). While at the UN, he established a unique Ph.D. program on Integrated management of Soil, Water, and Waste, which is now in its 7th year and offered jointly by UNU-FLORES and the Technische Universität Dresden in Germany.
Dr. Prasanta Kumar Sahu is Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani (BITS Pilani) at Hyderabad, India. He holds Ph.D. in Transportation Systems Engineering (TSE) from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) and Master's in TSE from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur). Dr. Sahu has been a pioneering contributor to freight transportation planning and policy in India with numerous high-quality publications aiming to improve the logistic efficiency of goods movement. The foundation of his research has been the application of rigorous quantitative methods for modelling freight demand and assessing the negative externalities of city logistics operations. The model systems developed by Dr. Sahu are disseminated in top-tier transportation journals and are available for policymakers requiring freight demand quantifications at the disaggregated levels of establishments and ports. Dr. Sahu is currently leading an associate research center (ARC) of Center of Excellence on Sustainable Urban Freight Systems (CoE-SUFS) at BITS Pilani. Through ARC, he is working toward fostering sustainability efforts in urban freight transport planning and operations. He also focuses on green mobility planning, quality of life, and demand management schemes such as congestion pricing and transport emissions. Multiple projects led by Dr. Sahu in these research areas are currently ongoing under the sponsorship of funding schemes such as Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), Govt. of the United Kingdom, and Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC), MHRD, Govt. of India, Public Works Department, Govt. of Telangana. Dr. Sahu is Life Member of Institute of Urban Transport (IUT), India and Transportation Research Group (TRG) India. Additionally, he is Visiting Faculty to University of Regina, Regina, Canada and Cardiff University, Cardiff, Wales, UK.
Dr. Satyajeet Nanda is working as Associate Professor in the School of Civil Engineering, KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India.
