Operational Research in Business and Economics

This book gathers a selection of refereed papers presented at the 4th International Symposium and 26th National Conference of the Hellenic Operational Research Society. It highlights recent scientific advances in operational research and management science (OR/MS), with a focus on linking OR/MS with other areas of quantitative methods in a multidisciplinary framework. Topics covered include areas such as business process modeling, supply chain management, organization performance and strategy planning, revenue management, financial applications, production planning, metaheuristics, logistics, inventory systems, and energy systems.

Auteur

Evangelos Grigoroudis is an Associate Professor of Management of Quality Processes at the School of Production Engineering and Management, Technical University of Crete, Greece. He pursued his postgraduate studies at the Technical University of Crete, where he received his Ph.D. degree in 1999. He has received distinctions from the Hellenic Operational Research Society, the Academy of Business and Administrative Sciences, the World Automation Congress, the Foundation of Ioannis and Vasileia Karayianni, the Technical University of Crete, and the State Scholarships Foundation of Greece. He has served as a reviewer for more than 50 scientific journals, and he is an associate editor of Operational Research: An International Journal; the International Journal of Decision Support Systems; Journal of Knowledge Economy; International Journal of Social Ecology and Sustainable Development; Journal of Innovation and Entrepreneurship; and Journal of Technology, Innovation and Education. Further, he is a member of the Editorial Board of the following journals: the International Journal of Information and Decision Sciences; International Journal of Information Systems in the Service Sector; and the International Journal of Multicriteria Decision Making. He is the author/editor of 10 books on the measurement of service quality; the business strategy and management, and the multicriteria decision aid approaches; as well as a significant number of research reports and papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings. Michael Doumpos is an Associate Professor of Operations Research at the School of Production Engineering and Management, Technical University of Crete, Greece. His research interests include multicriteria decision making, decision support systems, business intelligence, and financial risk management. He has published over 60 research papers in premier journals in operations research, management science, and finance. He has also authored and editedseveral books on intelligent decision support, multicriteria analysis, and financial decision making, and he has guest-edited more than 10 special issues in these areas for leading international journals. He has been involved in a number of research projects funded by public organizations and the private sector, regarding the implementation of decision support systems and data analysis techniques in several areas such as finance, banking, and shipping.
