Data and its processed state 'information' have become an indispensable resource for virtually all aspects of business, education, etc. Consequently, decisions regarding the handling of this data, transforming it into meaningful information, and ultimately arriving at the best course of action have taken on a new importance. This book highlights a selection of cutting-edge research on decision making presented at the 25th International Conference on Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM 2019), held in Istanbul, Turkey.
Ilker Topcu is a Professor of Decision Sciences at Industrial Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Turkey, and has been affiliated with ITU since 1994. More recently, he held a visiting professor position at the University of Pittsburgh (USA), Katz Business School, from 2018 through 2019. His research interests include multiple criteria decision making, decision analysis, and operations research/management science. He is an executive committee member of the International Society of Multiple Criteria Decision Making since 2015. He has published several journal papers, book chapters, and conference proceedings. His latest book for Springer is an edited volume entitled 'Operations Research Applications in Health Care Management' in 2018.
Özay Özayd?n is an Assistant Professor at the Industrial Engineering Department of Do?u? University, Turkey. His teaching and research topics are entrepreneurship and innovation, product and process development, decision making, logistics and transportation. He has published journal articles in Interfaces, Transport Policy, European Journal of Operational Research, Knowledge-Based Systems, International Journal of Fuzzy Systems, and Research in Transportation Economics. He is also the co-chair of SIG E1 - Transport System Analysis and Economic Evaluation at World Conference on Transport Research Society.
Özgür Kabak an Associate Professor at Industrial Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University (ITU-IE). Before lecturing in ITU-IE, he spent a year at the Belgium Nuclear Research Centre for post-doctoral research funded by the Belgian Science Policy (BELSPO). He teaches undergraduate and graduate education courses in operations research, group decision-making and logistics management. His research explores how to model complex systems such as socio- economic systems, productions systems, supply chains, logistics and transportation systems, etc. and how to make decision in group decision making environments and incomplete information situations. He has published in indexed journals including European Journal of Operations Research, Transport Policy, Knowledge-based Systems, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, and Socio-Economic Planning Sciences, etc. His work has been featured in international conferences and meetings including MCDM, FLINS, WCTR and EURO-k conference series.
?ule Önsel Ekici is a Professor in the Industrial Engineering Department of Do?u? University, Turkey, and she is the former dean of the Engineering Faculty. She has graduated from Istanbul Technical University (Management Faculty, Department of Industrial Engineering) in 1993 and received her MSc. and Ph.D. degrees from the same university. Her research topics are decision support systems, multicriteria decision making, neural networks, scenario analysis, cognitive and Bayesian maps. Her refereed articles have appeared in a variety of journals including Transport Policy, Transportation Research Part A and Part C, Expert Systems with Applications, Socio-Economic Planning Sciences, European Journal of Operational Research, and International Journal of Production Research.
