The Origins of Social Care and Social Work

European and North American notions of helping - or managing - poor and marginalised people have deep roots in religious traditions, which continue to influence contemporary social work practice. Mark Henrickson acknowledges social work's past, but proposes that it need not be constrained by it. Addressing current debates in international social work about the relevance of different perspectives, this book will allow practitioners and scholars to create a global future of social work.
