Shaping Knitting delves into stitch structure and how different stitches work together to alter not just the thickness of the knitting but also its shaping, and how this can be harnessed when making both fabric and garments. Written for knitters and designers, it encourages exploration and experimentation with the aim of gaining a greater understanding of knitted textures, patterns and shaping. This book looks at the reasons for knitting in different directions and at the advantages of beginning at the top, the side or at any point, as well as the traditional bottom edge. Auteur

Having trained in textile design and worked in textiles while bringing up her family, Alison Ellen began making hand knitwear in the 1980s and went on to teach short courses and textile groups. Inspired by her research into knitting history and technique, she wrote three books on knitting, including the bestselling Hand Knitting - new directions and Knitting - colour, structure and design for Crowood. This new book captures her passion for knitting with bold experimentation, and draws on her thirty years' experience of designing, teaching and exploring the versatile technique of hand knitting.
