First Order: Zeraïm / Tractates Kilaim and eviït ist der dritte Band in der Edition des Jerusalemer Talmuds und ein grundlegendes Werk der Jüdischen Patristik. Der Band präsentiert grundlegende jüdische Texte aus dem Bereich der Landwirtschaft: verbotene Mischungen von Saaten, Tieren und Geweben (Kilaim) sowie das Verbot landwirtschaftlicher Tätigkeit im Sabbatjahr, in dem auch alle Schulden zu erlassen sind (eviït). Dieser Teil des Jerusalemer Talmuds hat so gut wie keine Entsprechung im Babylonischen Talmud. Ohne seine Kenntnis bleiben die diesbezüglichen Regeln der jüdischen Tradition unverständlich.
Auteur
Heinrich W. Guggenheimer is Professor Emeritus of Polytechnic University (formerly Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn) where he taught Mathematics and also Jewish Studies in the Department of Humanities. He received his MS. and Sc.D. degrees from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, and his Jewish training at the Bet Hamidrash of Basle, Switzerland. He also taught at Hebrew University, Bar Ilan University, Washington State University, and the University of Minnesota. He has published over 150 research papers in Mathematics and Talmud, and is the author of numerous books. He currently teaches a daily class in Talmud and a weekly class in Kabbalah at Congregation Anshei Shalom, West Hempstead, New York.

The original text of the Jerusalem Talmud is here established on the basis of the editio princeps and the existing manuscripts. The text is fully vocalized. This edition also presents the first English scholarly translation and commentary of the Jerusalem Talmud. All technical terms and syllogisms are explained. The edition will serve as a necessary foundation for the understanding of all rabbinic tradition once the entire Talmud has been commented.
