© Springer-Verlag 2008 rd 43 Biennial Meeting of the German Colloid Society rd This volume containsselected paperspresented at the 43 Biennial Meeting of the German Colloid Society held at the Schloß Waldthausen near Mainz, October 810, 2007. The meeting's emphasis was given to Surface and Interfacial Forces From Fundamentals to Applications but also provided a general overview on current aspects of colloid and polymer science in fundamental research and applications. The contributions in this volume are representative of the richness of research topics in colloid and polymer science. They cover a broad eld including the application of scanning probe techniques to colloid and interface science, surface induced ordering, novel developments in amphiphilic systems as well as the synthesis and applications of nano-colloids. The meeting brought together people from different elds of colloid, polymer, and materials science and provided the platform for dialogue between scientists from universities, industry, and research institutions.
Progress in Colloid and Polymer Science is a supplement to the journal "Colloid and Polymer Science" publishing topic-related volumes Subscribers to "Colloid and Polymer Science" are entitled to a 20 % discount Since 1999 Progress in Colloid and Polymer Science is also available in electronic format via SpringerLink for all Colloid and Polymer Science subscribers with standing orders Includes supplementary material: sn.pub/extras
Auteur
Hans-Jürgen Butt is Director at the Max Planck Institue for Polymer Research in Mainz, Germany. He studied physics in Hamburg and Göttingen, Germany. Then he went to the Max-Planck-Institute of Biophysics in Frankfurt. After receiving his Ph.D. in 1989 he went as a post-doc to Santa Barbara, California, using the newly developed atomic force microscope. From 1990-95 he spent as a researcher back in Germany at the Max-Planck-Institute for Biophysics. In 1996 he became associate professor for physical chemistry at the University Mainz, three years later full professor at the University of Siegen. Only two years later he joined the Max-Planck-Institute of Polymer Research in Mainz and became director for Experimental Physics.
