This up-to-date book examines the broad concepts of international criminology, and covers the Asian region in particular. Includes an examination of country- and region-specific attitudes toward crime and punishment.

The Handbook of Asian Criminology aims to be a key reference for international scholars with an interest in the broad theme of international criminology in general, and the Asian region in particular. Contextualization is a key theme in this book. The role of context is often underemphasized in international criminology, so the Handbook of Asian Criminology's premise that crime and the responses to it are best understood as deeply embedded in the cultural specificity of the environment which produces them will play a key role throughout the work. Attention will be given to country- and region specific attitudes towards crime and punishment.

Dr. Susyan Jou is a Professor of Criminology, at the National Taipei University, Taiwan. Dr. Bill Hebenton is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Criminology and Criminal Justice, School of Law, at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom.

With many of its countries undertaking development and modernization--and others taking major roles on the global stage--Asia is a region in flux. And as with any area in transition, there are myriad opportunities for crime to flourish. But at the same time that illegal activities are on the rise, so is the emergence of robust crime research in the region.
