Auteur
Bonnie Tiell, EdD, is a professor of sport management at Tiffin University and the United States Sports Academy (USSA). She has organized the Academic Experience With Olympians at every Summer Games since Athens 2004. Members of her team worked at the OLY House and with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee at the USA Welcome Experience during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her international work on five continents and extensive publishing experience make her a leading authority on global and intercollegiate sports as well as sport tourism. She is the author of two sport management textbooks and a member of the editorial board for The Sport Journal. She also serves as the education correspondent for Sports Destination Management magazine.
Tiell has received numerous awards for her contributions to sport education, especially for her work in facilitating leadership development for women in the industry. In 2024, she was named Educator of the Year in Seneca County, Ohio, which has been her home since 1988. She is the cofounder of the Women’s Leadership Symposium in Intercollegiate Athletics, a program currently funded and administered by Women Leaders in Sports and the NCAA. She is also the lead faculty member for Life After the Games, a comprehensive online, self-paced professional development course for athletes and coaches.
Tiell has lectured for the Futbol Business Academy, a global company based in Switzerland providing training for aspiring sport executives and owners. She has worked extensively with the Sports Authority of Thailand delivering workshops in Bangkok to directors, military personnel, and administrators representing almost every Thai national sports federation. She has also worked with state sport authorities in the Kingdom of Bahrain and China, where she has provided workshops in sport governance, strategic planning, and sport psychology.
Tiell holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Troy University, a master’s degree in sport administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a doctorate of education in sport management from the USSA. She is a featured sport columnist for the Advertiser-Tribune and is also the author of the textbook Human Resources in Sports: A Managerial Approach.
Tiell and her husband (Greg) are the parents of two adult daughters (Kimberly and Katie) and their son-in-law (Jack).
