From leading autistic activists and witty content creators Elora Dodd, star of the popular social media account @online1roomschoolhouse, and educator C. R. R. Hillin comes a vibrant activity book that will guide readers through the challenges of life with autism and help foster pride in being neurodivergent. Globally an estimated 168 million people have autism, and yet resources for the community designed by those who truly understand the disorder first-hand are severely lacking. The result is a culture that stereotypes, underdiagnoses, and excludes neurodivergents, leaving them to make do in a hostile environment, and a society that misses out on all that their outside-the-box thinking could contribute. To combat this, The Actually Autistic Guide has been carefully crafted by autistics for autistics in order to enable community members to conquer daily challenges heads on. Authors Elora Dodd, whose social media account buzzing with anecdotes from her experiences as a neurodivergent has acquired more than seven hundred thousand followers, and her fellow activist C. R. R. Hillin, use their signature humor, creativity, and relatability to provide guidance acquired from their own experiences as well as from members of the #actuallyautistic online community. The result is a colorful, hands-on volume with: Tips and tricks for managing sensory issues, avoiding burnout, communicating with others, and so much more Dozens of original illustrations and details to delight and stimulate Coloring pages for zoning out or tuning in Activities and games Fascinating history and insight into the challenges faced by autistics and the progress being madeA perfect book for the neurodivergent mind, The Actually Autistic Guide is offers plenty to focus (and hyperfocus) on. It will allow readers a unique way to absorb content and start you on a journey of self-discovery, knowing that your ability to thrive is limitless.

We hope this book dies.
Both of us authors grew up in a world where Autism resources were few and far between. We got used to never being understood and just not getting help. We got used to feeling broken.
Our hope is that this book will help anyone reading it, Autistic or not, to better understand Autism, and to give themselves grace to be different, even when it hurts. We hope this book makes the world a kinder, safer place for Autistics.
What we hope for the most, however, is that someday books like this won’t be needed anymore. We hope someday people learn about Autism just like they learn about gender and body types and personalities and all those other wonderful things that make humans different from each other. We hope that someday Autism is accepted by default. We hope that someday resources for Autistics will be so common that no one even remembers this book, because so many much more fabulous books have been written.
Maybe the next fabulous book about Autism will be written by someone like you.
The journey to Autism acceptance and Autism support is a long one, and we hope this book moves us forward a bit.
But we aren’t perfect. Autistics are an incredibly diverse bunch. We have done our best to represent Autism accurately and perceptively, but we may have missed some important points. Autism is far too complicated and beautiful to be explained in just one book. We have done our very best, but you might do better.
And that’s wonderful.
If you notice an area we have missed in this book that you think needs to be addressed, we encourage you to write your own book. We need more books on Autism! You will have a perspective we do not have, and we look forward to reading it.
We hope the world learns all about Autism. We hope you tell your story. We hope so many people tell their stories and add to the collective knowledge on Autism that this book isn’t needed anymore.
We hope that someday, this book dies.
But until then, we have done our best.

About The Insider’s Guide to Autism

Who wrote this book? We did! Hi there! Our names are K. and Elora, and we are two Autistic artists who filled this book with all the information about Autism that we wish we had known earlier. Neither of us knew we were Autistic until we were already adults. Once we found out, we had a lot of lost time to make up for! We’ve spent the last few years learning everything we can about Autism, and it has made our lives much better! We hope that by sharing this information, we can make other people’s lives better too.
Who is this book for? This book has been written with Autistics in mind, but anyone is welcome to read it! This book has two main types of pages: information and activities. Information pages are full of information about Autism. Activity pages are games, quizzes, worksheets, and coloring pages meant to help Autistics better…
