"The Meanings of Death in Rabbinic Judaism" is the first study of death and the mourning practices of Judaism's founders-the Rabbis of late antiquity. David Kraemer examines the earliest canonical texts-the Mishnah, the Tosefta, the Midrashim, and the Talmud-to decipher what ancient Jewish death rituals were. Through his examination of these vital Jewish texts, he is able to discover the unexpected irrational foundations of these beliefs. He also includes a discussion of evidence from the largest Jewish burial complex in antiquity, Beth Shearim, and an interpretation of the death rituals recorded in the Babylonian Talmud.

The Baddeley and Hitch (1974) Working Memory model holds a central place in experimental psychology and continues to be extremely successful in guiding and stimulating research in applied and theoretical domains. Yet the model now faces challenges from conflicting data and competing theories. In this book, experienced researchers in the field address the question: Will the model survive these challenges? They explain why it is so successful, evaluate its weaknesses with respect to opposing data and theories and present their vision of the future of the model in their particular area of research.
