This is the first historical-critical complete edition of the French composer, based on the philologically accurate evaluation of all surviving sources. The edition includes score volumes with libretto and critical report; piano reductions and performance material. Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687) is the most important French composer of the 17th century, whose works influenced Purcell, Bach, Handel, and others. The demand for Lully scores and for performance materials has grown considerably in recent years. The success of performances of the operas Atys, Roland, Armide and others, the comédies-ballets, including Molière's most performed work, Le Bourgeois gentilhomme, on many stages of the world have shown the desire for a practical and scholarly edition. This need is met by the new edition.
