Hans Blumenberg did not formulate a theory of reading, but in his dissertation of 194647 he had already established a connection between reception and theory formation. This can be traced through the history of metaphor from the Book of Nature to the late glosses. This study describes the importance of reading for Blumenberg's writings, developing a post-hermeneutic concept of readability.
